Large Intestine Model Editor (LIME): Design and pilot evaluation of an editor for parameterized large intestine 3D models
Enhancing training in lower gastrointestinal procedures through virtual technology.
The LoGiViT project seeks to develop a Virtual Training Environment (VTE) for colonoscopy, addressing the limitations of existing simulators, which are expensive, bulky, and offer limited training scenarios. The objective is to create a realistic simulator using virtual reality and 3D models to replicate endoscope interactions with the large intestine. A key feature, the Large Intestine Model Editor (LIME), will allow users to generate diverse anatomical models without specialized expertise. Following a participatory design approach, the simulator will be developed in collaboration with experts and trainees and validated through controlled studies to ensure its effectiveness as a training tool.
Commercial consumer-grade hardware overcoming the cost barrier of proprietary medical simulators.
Intuitive authoring tool to generate procedural colon geometries and pathologies without 3D expertise.
Co-designed and rigorously tested with medical gastroenterologists, residents, and clinical specialists.
